Yesterday we made it back up to USP Library to sponge up the flooding on the carpet and open the windows. Not sure what will happen there and if we can save the carpet as need to reduce moisture getting into the books and making them mouldy.
We also got across the Aggies side of town. It is a huge mess over there with people walking calf deep on mud. Unfortunately this has gone through so many peoples homes, including our friends from netball. There is no running water out there yet either to aid in clean up. As we have water at home we will try and take some across, just need to find lots of containers to put it in now.
At home we cleared the section so now have 4 large piles of rubbish, and we thought our damage was minimal. Adam is happy though to now own a desent mans size slasher!
Inside we are battling an invasion of ants on and in everything including the closed fridge. As the power has been off for 4 days and looks like it may be several weeks, due to the dam bursting (and flooding friends home) the fridges and freezers are thawed and everyone is cooking up what they can. We have impressed ourselves baking shortcake and tarts with fruit on the bbq using a foil tray as a lid for heat. They look edible!
Pepole are finding places to charge up and we will have to too tomorrow.
We are hand washing too now.
Our thoughts are with friends in Fiji as they get through it at Category 5 strength.
