Raeco Slatwall panels being installed in the library one evening
They brighten up the library and give it a more modern feel. They are also a great way for us to display our New Books, Journals and DVD titles.

Fale Fono
We are mourning the demolition of the Fale Fono. The place where Samoan Independence was signed 50 years ago and where the Samoan Flag was first flown. An interesting way to celebrate 50 years, pulling down the historic place where it all happened. There are mixed stories about its safety and ability to be renovated and even more stories as to whether is will be reconstructed and if so exactly where. Here are some photos taken the evening before demolition day (yes we had been running and yes it was grey and raining!)

What is this beautiful fruit?
Apparently it is a Mangosteen!
Quite a rare tropical fruit that is not seen around often. When 1 was brought to the library the other day for identification many of us drew a blank. We were not even sure if it was real as it had the distinct look of a plastic ornament and there was no smell!
Anyway while at the market today we spotted some and decided to try. I had it on good advice that this fruit is the most exquisite eating.
The taste is a sweet fruit burst like no other. It is a taste sensation. Very delicious.
After breaking open the outer shell that is like a passionfruit, firm on the outside but softish flesh a deep redish purple colour that stains like beetroot, you find a white flesh which is the part you eat. The flesh comes away from the shell very easily and has the texture of a lychee, a bit squishy and slippery, but is also similar to a mandarin with segmented parts. Some of the segments contain flat slimy stones.
What a wonderful experience.

A Creative Chirstmas
Talofa All and a belated Happy New Year to everyone.
Again another year gets the better of us and so it's March and finally we are posting! So we had a great Christmas and Holiday in NZ this year. 3 lovely weeks including Christmas and Boxing Day frivolities, time at Waitarere, riding our mountain bikes in the forest, running, walking on the beach, eating lovely food with wonderful people, a Birthday High Tea, a retiree on a push scooter, a Telescope for a 70 year old and a new baby born. Phew, we had to come back to Samoa for a rest! Anyway it was a creative time for the following reasons. Here is photographic evidence:-
Samoan Quilt and Samoan Teddy Bear made for the baby
Guava Jam made from Guava's off our tree (Christmas presents for everyone!)
High Tea with Guava Jam, Samonan Passionfruit curd, Lemon curd, tropical fruit and scones in a Samoan pouch
The 70th Birthday Caravan Cake
